If you like festivals, then around October is a great time to go. The Hindu festivals Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, and Kali Puja are held around October or November every year.

Park Street, presently renamed as Mother Teresa sarani, is another milestone in the history of Kolkata which has seen many rulers and withstood the passage of time. Park Street houses many reputed restaurants and considered ideal for fine dining by both middle & upper class Kolkattans.

32.Town Hall

Town Hall is a very beautiful heritage building to visit for kolkata sightseeing. It is in the heart of Kolkata. People can visit town hall to see many traditional items of Bengal.

There is a amazing museum of old Calcutta peoples, culture and history..There are many diorama rooms & even a virtual reality show, where one is engulfed by a famous event taking place all around.

The imposing colonnaded cube of the former Town Hall Building dates from 1814 the funds for constructing this building was raised from a lottery to provide the Europeans with a place for social gatherings.

It now hosts Kolkata Panorama, an introduction to the city’s heritage through a lively collection of working models, videos and interactive exhibits.It is also a  place for  kolkata tourism.

 33.Metcalfe Hall

Metcalfe hall is a grand heritage building which houses a museum on the culture of Kolkata. Brilliantly preserved and being used as a museum exhibiting Kolkata's heritage and glorious past.

Metcalfe Hall was built in the mid 19th century in honour of Charles Metcalfe, officiating Governor General of India in 1835-36, who later served as Governor General of Canada. The building was designed by C.K.Robinson in classical Greek style and is noted for its colonnades supported by massive Corinthian columns.The most visiting place in kolkata and refreshing place that comes under Kolkata tourism.

 34.Jorasanko Thakur bari

Jorasanko Thakur Bari is famous for it's architecture and sculpture depicting old age constructions.Jorasanko Thakur Bari is the house in which the first non-European Nobel laureate and poet.It is the ancestral home of the Tagore family. In fact Rabindranath was born here and died here at the age of 81 in 1941.

It's a serene place with a nostalgic feel. Informative and awe inspiring to see the rooms, personal belongings, paintings, letters and writings of Gurudeb Tagore and his family. Thakur bari is another one of the well-preserved treasures and best visiting places in Kolkata.The simple grandeur of their home is in keeping with their patronage of bengali culture, art and literature.

Points to improve:
1.The shop should be stocked much better with his and other Tagores'translated books,prints of paintings and Tagore's own portrait prints. It's a great marketing opportunity lost!

 35. Pareshnath  Jain Temple

The Pareshnath Jain Temple is actually a complex of four separate Jain temples. The temples are located in a very spacious grounds with well maintained gardens. The temples are also very nice architecturally and aesthetically. We had been here in the morning and had a very nice darshan.

The Parshwanath Jain Temple of Kolkata was built by Ray Badridas Bahadur in 1867. The temple is dedicated to Parshwanath, who was the 23rd Jain Tirthankar, and he is worshipped by the Jains, and this is one of the most important tourist place in Kolkata.


The four temples in the courtyard are of Shitalnath, Chandraprabhu , Mahavir Swami and Dadawadi, The deity of Lord Shitalnathji is seated in the sanctum sanctorum, and his diamond-studded forehead is a major attraction for  kolkata tourism.Major attraction pf jain temple is the lamp (diya) which is burning since 1867 continuously in the sanctum.

 36.Academy of fine arts

Academy of fine arts or academy is heart of Kolkata's culture.The Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, formally established in 1933 by Lady Ranu Mukherjee, is one of the oldest fine arts societies  and visiting place in kolkata.

 There are several galleries for exhibition of paintings and photography. There is a theatre auditorium  which is one of the most popular spots for performers and viewers of the city. Since 1984,annual theatre festival is organised here.

 It was initially located in a room loaned by the Indian Museum. In the 1950s the academy was shifted to the present location. Academy of fine arts is a must-visit when on a Kolkata sightseeing tour.There are some famous paintings here like Saat bhai champa by Gaganendranath Tagore, Shiva with Ganesh by Jamini Roy.

37.Millenium Park


MIllenium Park is one of the best and romantic visiting places in Kolkata.Millennium park is a nice spacious park and nearest station is B B D Bag.This park is on the bank of the Ganges.Nice place to enjoy the beauty of the river Ganges.Afternoon is probably a good time to visit the park. One can enjoy the sight of the famous Hawrah bridge sitting on the benches in the park. It is a nice place to watch the sunset.

38.Shobhabazar Rajbari


Shobhabajar Rajbari is one of the rich bengali style houses built long back and it's best time to visit at durga pooja.The Rajbari is actually the erstwhile home of Nabakrishna Deb; a gentleman who rose in contemporary society in colonial India. His first house has lions on the gate...(Main gate is called Singha-dwar literally Lion-door in Bangla) so it is called Bagh (tiger)-wala bari. It’s among the unique and beautiful places to visit in Kolkata.

Durgapuja of shobhabajar Rajbari is one of the ancient Durga pujas in Kolkata. One can visit there at the time of DurgaPuja and can feel the nostalgia which is not gone here. Whereas for the maximum famous Durga puja in kolkata are in the battle of "theme-puja. "

39.Elliot Park

Eden garden is one of the best places to visit in Kolkata.The park has a nice pond at the entrance and some swans and ducks were swimming there.The garden area us well maintained with lots of large floors and lawn.

The soothing atmosphere is however not the only reason to visit.The grounds occasionally host events and concerts with a token entry fee. But keep in mind that you will need to check ahead of time if you want to make your visit coincide with an event and it is one of the best and romantic places to visit in Kolkata.

The park is easily accessible by all means of transport, with the Maidan metro station being the nearest. As a bonus, many of the other places on our list too are not very far from the park, and you could even combine a visit to another romantic place (or two) for the perfect day.

40.Cental Park


Central Park never gets old! It is the second largest park after Maidan.Pathways through the woods make walking a very nice experience, especially in the early mornings. There is a small island in the middle of the lake, accessible through a pathway and a bridge.Best place for Lovers that's why it is one of the best and romantic places to visit in Kolkata

It's good place for small get together or picnic with friends. The park is very beautiful and decorated with with variety of rose flower and other flowers there are number of benches for sitting and a beautiful pagoda shape shade.

41. Shantiniketan


Shantiniketan established by Maharshi Devendranath Tagore, and later expanded by his son Rabindranath Tagore whose vision became what is now a university town with the creation of the Visva-Bharati University.The Vishva Bharati Campus is the most amazing and famous place in town. The university brings in many students as it provides a conjunction of cultures. Famous alumni of the university include our former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, filmmaker Satyajit Ray and economist Amartya Sen. 

Shantiniketan is a paradise for shoppers.  You can find numerous beautiful handmade products like terracotta,leather bags,jewellary etc at pocket-friendly prices. The place has many gardens,melas,temple and institutes which brief up the historical times. 

The town is known for its artistic heritage and literary, with the famouse figures being Rabindranath Tagore and Nandalal Bose. In addition, the Visva Bharati also serves as Shantiniketan's cultural center.

There are no doubts that Shantiniketan offers one of the most tourist place in kolkata and perfect weekend getaways near Kolkata.

Chowranghee is a popular market area. This is one of the main roads of kolkata, we use to have a charm during British period. you can see few very old heritage building from out side.This place is a delight for those travellers who like history. 43.Sri Aurobindo Bhawan 


One of the most sacred and tourist places of Kolkata where the great saint Sri Aurobindo was born and where his sacred relics have been enshrined. Peace, calmness, spiritual ambiance of the place takes one to a different world of consciousness where one feels the heavenly pleasure.

Birth place of the great freedom fighter sri Aurbindo who started a ashram and spiritual community is dedicated to the community. The place hosts a cultural setup,library,reading room etc

The place also organizes other spiritual activities and meditation. The place houses the samadhi or resting place of Sri Aurbindo Ghosh. The surrondings are beautiful and full of peace, big trees and beautifully maintained garden adds to the beauty.

44.Netaji Bhawan

Netaji Bhawan is a triple storied building. On the first floor where there are three rooms open to visitors. There are two bedrooms, one of which was used by Netaji and some of his personal belongings are on display there. The third room is Netaji’s study, which has some original furniture. The third floor consists of a large photo gallery where you can see pictures and other memorabilia associated with Netaji. While there are many pictures and artefacts of INA and Netaji’s travels in Europe and the far East, there is just one photo of his wife and daughter.

Netaji Bhawan was originally the town house of J.N.Bose, father of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. It has been converted into a museum dedicated to the Bose family, especially Netaji Subhas. Netaji is another one of the well-preserved treasures and best visiting places in Kolkata.

45.Snow Park 

A decent place to visit. The inside snow chamber is cold very very cold must be Minus Six Degrees as claimed by them. The slide inside and circular floaties are really fun to do and very slippery. This is first of its kind in Kolkata, thus a great attraction, specially in mid-summers.

46.Sabarna Sangrahashala

Sabarna Roy Choudhury family is an illustrious family of Bengal and probably the most famous of all the old Zamidar families. The Kolkata Birhday case which rubbed off the myth of Job Charnock form the history was their greatest achievement. Now this family is engaged in preserving the history and heritage of the land.The place is owned and having the name associated with Sabarna Roy Chowdhury, one of the oldest Royal families of Kolkata.

 The zinc,silver and copper coins displayed in this museum were rarest of the rare collections, donated by famous families of Kolkata. I even found a Mughal era parchment-written manuscript among the ground floor curios.Sabarna sangrahashala is one of the most visited tourist places in Kolkata.

   47. Chinese Buddhist Temple



This is a Buddist temple  promoted by Chinese who follow Buddhist Culture.   48. Kumartuli

Kumartuli is a locality in the older part and tourist place of Kolkata . This is the place where local
artisans make the  idols of various God's . With " Baaro Maase Tero Parbon " ( literally translated as thirteen festivals in twelve months ) , the area is active throughout the year . Kumartuli hosts the workshops and also the residences of the artisans .

Proximity to the Ganges river , which provides Gangamaati ( the mud from the Ganges ) for the idols, makes the place convenient for the artisans.I highly recommend you that must vist Kumortuli during your kolkata tourism.you will get a clear sense of what goes into the creation of a Durga Puga festival.

49. Park Street cemetery

Park Street cemetery was active in the late 18th century and contains tombs of British residents in Calcutta, many of whom died very young.The Park Street cemetery was ceremonially declared open in 1767. cemetery one of the most hounted and visiting place in kolkata.

It is one of the first non-church cemeteries in the world. It houses the tombs of distinguished expatriates who were once an integral part of kolkata history.This was a peaceful place and interesting from a social history point of view. Sad to see how many infants died from various causes but the memorials were beautiful and a constant reminder.

 50. Bandel Church

Bandel Church is one of the oldest Christian churches in West Bengal.It is one of the most prominent historical churches in West Bengal as well as in India.During christmas approx 2000 people visit in this church.It is one of the most tourist places in Kolkata and must not be missed when exploring Kolkata.

In front of the Church stands a ship's mast which was presented by the captain of a vessel which had encountered a storm in Bay of Bengal and save by the grace of Virgin, the center of attraction. There is the statue of" One lady of Happy Voyage" in the middle of the church.  The church has a small organ,several tomb stones & three altars .
